HM Revenue and Customs are moving all of their helplines which are currently on the 0845 number range to the 0300 range.

This migration was started in April of this year and has recently seen another surge of helplines moving over to the more consumer friendly number range.

HMRC announced their plans to migrate to the 03 range after complaints about long call waiting times and unanswered calls. 03 numbers are the perfect way to combat customer dissatisfaction as the calls are often included within most monthly mobile minute bundles making them effectively free to call.

Calls to 03 numbers are never charged at more than the rate of a local call, even when calling from a mobile, making the number more appealing to customers.

The migration is expected to be complete by the end of summer 2013, with the 0845 numbers being completely scrapped and making it significantly cheaper for customers to call the HMRC

03 Number Shop’s CEO Mahmood Mazhar is pleased the migration is taking place: ‘HMRC hold an important place in society and needs to be accessible to consumers, which is what 03 numbers will help them with.

03 numbers have been created solely for use by charities and the public sector so the move makes perfect sense for HMRC to be using this number range.’
